The body of a white female was recovered from Lake Wallenpaupack Tuesday afternoon about 50 yards out from the boat launch area at Mangan Cove. Police are not releasing the person’s identity, pending notification of family.

Police had been searching the lake for a missing 28-year-old Hawley woman, last seen sometime late Sunday night, early Monday morning near the PPL Environmental Learning Center. “We started an investigation yesterday morning about 10:30 a.m. when we received information that Holly Steffens was missing. We did get information that she was in this area, so we started the search this morning, about 9:30 a.m. We did discover a body of a white female at about 1 p.m.,” said Trooper Bill Satkowski, Public Information Officer.

“We are conducting an investigation of how this individual died. So it is still an ongoing, active investigation,” Satkowski told the press at the scene.
