The Shade Tree Committee for Honesdale has been meeting for several years now with a vision to enhance and beautify downtown Honesdale.  They have also established guidelines for planting trees downtown.
This is necessary so that trees are properly planted, cared for and maintained.
Nature’s Grace Natural Foods at 947 Main Street is the first business to sign this agreement and plant a tree in front of their establishment.
This agreement includes, among other things, permission from the building owner and the Shade Tree Committee as well as selection from a list of appropriate trees.  Other businesses interested in planting a tree are encouraged to contact Gail Tucker at the Greater Honesdale Partnership at 253-5492 or a Shade Tree Committee member to receive a copy of this agreement.
Memorial tree planned
Another shade tree is planned for Main Street, that was approved by the Shade Tree Committee. Jeffrey Hiller, owner of Trackside Grill, 734 Main Street, announced that a tree will be planted in memory of Lisa A. Cronin, who was a victim of domestic violence. She was employed at Trackside Grill.
The flowering pear tree is to be planted Tuesday July 7 at 7 p.m. with representatives from Victim’s Intervention Program (VIP), co-workers, family members and friends present.
Donations are being accepted for VIP in Lisa’s memory.
