The Dodgers finished off yet another championship season by posting a razor-thin win over the Giants Thursday night at the Grove Street Complex. Wayne Bank scored the only run of this Senior Division championship game in the fifth inning, handing the Giants a heartbreaking 1-0 loss.
Wayne Bank and Elegante needed just 55 minutes to play Thursday night's HLBA Senior Division championship game.
The two teams matched zeroes through four spine-tingling frames before the Dodgers finally broke through against the Giants' pitching.
Adam Kelly retired the first two batters he faced in the inning, but then lefty Gavin Canfield smoked an opposite field double just inside the third base bag. Stacey Hart stepped up next and delivered the biggest hit of Wayne Bank's season.
Hart ripped a single off the glove of Elegante's second baseman, allowing Canfield to sprint all the way home. As it turned out, this would be the lone run of the game. Gavin took the mound in the sixth and struck out the side, thereby ending the game...and the Senior Division season.
"I couldn't be happier with how it all worked out," longtime Coach Scott Kinzinger told TWI Sports just moments after his Dodgers sealed the deal on a 1-0 triumph. "The kids worked hard all season for this and I'm very proud of them."
Score by Innings...
Giants (11-7) 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 0
Dodgers (13-4) 0 0 0 0 1 x - 1
