Wayne Highlands School Bus 72 (the side and back reads “81A”) was heading down Cliff Street, Honesdale, Friday at about 2:45 p.m., when it collided with a parked pickup truck. Deputy Chief Joseph LoBasso, Honesdale Borough Police, confirmed that only the driver was taken away by Honesdale Ambulance. Confirmation of how many children were on the bus was not available by press time, but Dr. Christopher Lake, principal at St. Vincent’s School up the street, said that there were three from their school and they were all right. Mike Hegedus, the owner of the truck, said he heard the awful crash and came out of the house, and called 9-1-1 after checking on the occupants. He said that the bus apparently was slowed by striking the stone wall, before hitting his truck. Honesdale Fire Department and Fire Police also assisted. A police report is still pending.
