To the Editor:
I was a happy participant in today's Honesdale Jaycees' annual canoe classic. What a beautiful day it was. Now, I happened to win my category (women's solo short kayak), mostly because of a phenominal little slalom boat built in someone's garage in Canada back in the sixties, but, I was put to shame for my competitiveness when I watched those little groups of people crossing the finish line in little flotillas, incorporating a slower paddler who needed a moral and physical boost. There was no urge to push one's boat across the line first. The idea was "let us support each other and get through this together and have fun doing it." I salute those people who exemplified that spirit that makes any society great.
I also thank the Jaycees for giving the same privilidges to the women's classes as they gave to the men's. Very honorable.
Thanks for a great day.
