  • Pumpkin Fest to benefit Library
    HONESDALE - Pumpkin Fest is today, Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wayne County Public Library grounds, 1406 Main Street Honesdale. Used books, attic treasures, homemade soups, baked goods, hot dogs, pumpkin painting, children’s activities, animals and the Dairy Princess’s giant sundae are planned. On SUNDAY, Oct. 5 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. there will be a used books bag sale at the library.
    Learn all about bats
    HAWLEY - Bat Fest 2008 is coming to the Hawley Public Library on Saturday, October 4th from 1 to 3 p.m.  Learn to appreciate this important species in a new way with special bat displays, story times, free give-aways, and bat prizes.  Adults will be given free instructions on how to build their own bat house.  This event is hosted by the Hawley Public Library and Hercules Invictus.

    Dog Mountain Lodge hosts Blessing of the Beasts
    COCHECTON, NY - There will be a blessing of the beasts on Saturday October 4th at 1 p.m. at Dog Mountain Lodge boarding kennel in Cochecton, NY. Father John Lynch of Saint Mary & Saint Andrew and Our Lady of Lords will perform the blessing as part of his Saint Francis Day celebration. Animals of all kinds are welcome, especially dogs.
    Hackett accepts offer to debate, this Saturday
    HONESDALE - Republican challenger Chris Hackett will take part in a 10th Congressional Town Meeting  hosted by The Wayne Independent from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 4 at Honesdale High School. The event is free and open to the public. If Democratic Congressman Chris Carney agrees to attend, the forum will be a debate.     Auxiliary to hold flea market
    CARBONDALE - A Flea Market will be held on Saturday, October 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Marian Hall Auditorium to benefit the Marian Community Hospital Auxiliary. For more information, call 281-1072.
    Weekend for Jamie Benefit Oct. 4 and 5
    TYLER HILL -The second annual Weekend for Jamie Benefit Co-Ed Softball Tournament is being held October 4 and 5 at Tyler Hill Camp. Jamie Gager of Galilee suffers from an auto-immune disease known as Wegener’s Granulomatosis. Funds raised will help offset medical  costs. Teams are being sought for the two-day, double-elimination co-ed softball tournament.  For more details or to participate, contact Stacy Grund at 729-7608. Entrance fee for teams is $150. There is no cost to be a spectator.
    Religious author to be discussed

    WELCOME LAKE- An open house is scheduled at Welcome Lake Fire & Rescue for Fire Prevention Week. The oepn house, at the fire house at 99 Cosgrove Road east of Beach Lake, is planned Monday, October 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be fire truck rides and other activities for the children.     Account set up for fire victims
    HONESDALE - Wayne Bank has opened a trust account for one of the families burned out of their apartment in the house fire at 1733 East St., Honesdale, September 18th. Family friend Julie Soberg said that the name of the account is "Bryan Rossnagle & Angela Degraw Family Fire Fund Trust" and checks should be made out to that title and can be deposited at any Wayne Bank facility.
    Make ‘Obama’ t-shirts, hats, etc.
    HONESDALE- Visit the "Stencil America" table in front of the Democratic Party Headquarters at 968 Main St., Honesdale during the Harvest & Heritage Festival. Bring your own t-shirt, sweatshirt, umbrella, bag, jeans, hat, pillowcase, etc. to paint and design your own “Obama” message. There will be many different designs and words to choose from. Show your support and enthusiasm for the upcoming election. The table will be set up on Saturday, October 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    Senator Baker sets office hours
     HONESDALE - Senator Lisa Baker announced that Field Representative Tom Yoniski will be available for consultation this month from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on October 14 and 28 at the office located next to the Commissioners’ Office in Honesdale.
    Constituents are encouraged to visit with any questions or problems relating to state matters.   Concerns may also be addressed by visiting Senator Baker’s district office at 22 Dallas Shopping Center, Dallas, by calling the office at (570)675-3931, or by visiting her website at www.senatorbaker.com.
    Halloween parade set

The parade is planned Tuesday, October 28 with a rain date of October 29. Line-up is between 6 and 6:30 p.m. and the parade begins at 7 p.m. The parade starts at DSFI on 4th Street and heads up Main Street to 10th Street, ending at Central Park.
