It's time for Fire Prevention Week, and from October 5-11 the Prompton Fire & Rescue Unit is joining forces with the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to remind local residents to 'Prevent Home Fires.'
In this week, fire safety advocates will spread the word to their communities that, with a little extra caution, preventing the leading causes of home fires - cooking, heating, electrical and smoking-materials - is within their power.
In recognition of Fire Prevention Week, the Prompton Fire & Rescue Unit will be hosting their Annual Open House on Tuesday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Prompton Fire Hall.  From 6:30 to 7 p.m., tours of the fire apparatus will be conducted as well as free blood pressure screenings by the Waymart Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
The Honesdale Fire Department's Safety Trailer will also be on hand to give children the opportunity to hone their exiting skills in simulated fire escape drills.  The annual Fire Safety Program will start at 7 p.m..  Children will have the ability to participate in interactive activities involving everyday fire safety.  Fire safety literature, along with Child Finder and Handicapped Finder stickers will be provided to all in need.  Everyone is invited to attend.
