Hackett confirmed his attendance in an e-mail received Monday morning. Incumbent Democrat Chris Carney's campaign has not responded to the debate offer that appeared in the Saturday, Sept. 27 edition of the paper and on www.wayneindependent.com.

"Chris Hackett will attend the Wayne Independent moderated debate this Saturday, October 4th.  We thank you and your newspaper for your efforts to educate and inform the voters and constituents of Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional District. Please call me if you have any questions," wrote Hackett Campaign Chairman George Farrell in an e-mail to Publisher Steve Fountain.
Fountain faxed the debate invitation to both candidates Friday night.

The plan for Oct. 4 is to hold a debate if both candidates agree to appear, according to Fountain. If Carney does not appear, a candidate forum will be held featuring a mix of questions from Fountain and those submitted by readers and those in attendance.

"My sincere hope throughout this process has been to have at least one more face-to-face debate between the candidate," Fountain said.

Fountain said he hopes voters across the 10th Congressional District with contact the respective campaign to encourage the candidates' participation.
