A 22 year old man from Neville Road in Salem Township, Sean A. Madigan, was killed Saturday night in a motorcycle crash. State Police had initiated a pursuit after Madigan was observed rushing by in Lake Ariel at a high rate of speed.
According to the police report, at 8 p.m., Trooper Cole was in the area and saw the motorcycle rider, heading north on Route 191 For reasons unknown, the operator increased is speed reaching approximately 90 miles an hour. At this time Trooper Cole activated his lights and siren and started pursuit.
The motorcyclist began passing vehicles on the west berm and going up the middle between the lanes in an attempt to lose the trooper. The operator then turned onto Tresslerville Road at which time Trooper Cole lost sight of the motorcycle. The trooper continued west on Tresslerville Road and saw the operator when he arrived at the intersection of Route 196 and Chivers Road.
Apparently after seeing the approaching police car, the motorcyclist, who had entered Chivers Road, took off again at a high rate of speed, police said. The motorcyclist  headed west on Chivers Road. Trooper Cole then proceeded after the motorcyclist.
The crash occurred when the operator, due to his high speed, lost control of his motorcycle, striking a tree off the south berm, said police. The 1992 Kawasaki ZX600 broke into two pieces and the operator was ejected, landing in the middle of the road.  The front of the motorcycle traveled several feet and landed in the middle of the road; the other part went south across the road and striking another tree, landing on the north berm.
Trooper Cole arrived on the scene shortly after the crash, and immediately called for an ambulance, said Cpl. Robert Avvisato Jr., who investigated the crash.
Madigan died of multiple traumatic injuries, and died immediately, said Wayne County Coroner Carol Leinert, following an autopsy Monday. She said he was not wearing a helmet.
Lake Ariel Fire Department responded; fire police from Hamlin and Maplewood fire companies closed down Chivers Road for the investigation. Hamlin Ambulance and Medic 504 also were on scene.
