Bids were opened Tuesday, for demolition of a house that will make way for added parking for the Earl J. Simons Senior Center.
Wayne County Commissioners, last December, purchased the house at 335-11th Street, from David and Barbara Jezercak, Sr., of Prompton. The purchase price was $129,500. The house is the last one in line at the east end of 11th Street, opposite from Stourbridge Square Apartments.
The Senior Center is behind Stourbridge Square Apartments, at 323-10th Street.
Seven bids were received, ranging from $18,100 to $37,450. The low bid, from Augello Excavating, was accepted pending approval from the county’s engineer and solicitor.
Owners of the property in the past 50 years included the Jezercaks, Helen Piorkowski, Rose Gitch, Anna Pawlik, and Mary Pawlik.
