State Police, Blooming Grove, have announced the filing of homicide charges following an automobile accident last November, where a passenger was killed.

The driver, Lauren Phillips, age 22 and from Lackawaxen, has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle while DUI, Involuntary Manslaughter, Homicide by Vehicle, DUI and various summary vehicle violations.
She was traveling south on SR 4003, Welcome Lake Road in Lackawaxen Township on November 22, 2007, when she failed to negotiate a left curve. This was at 12:05 midnight. The 1992 Chevrolet Suburban entered the berm and then crossed he road, and struck a tree.
Ronald Turbiak who was sitting in the rear passenger seat, was killed in the crash.  He was not wearing a seta belt. Turbiak was 53, and from Lackawaxen. A front seta passenger, Bryan Engvaldsen, 35, of Hawley, was strapped in and was unhurt. Phillips also was wearing a seat belt, and escaped injury.
Trooper Peter Matyjevich said that as a result of the investigation, it was discovered that Phillips was driving under the influence (DUI) at the time of the collision.
The vehicle was severely damaged.
A warrant was served on Phillips and she is currently incarcerated in Pike County Correctional Facility awaiting further court action for this incident.
