On Saturday, December 22nd Honesdale Police arrested 30 year old Jason Barnes, formerly from California, currently residing in Honesdale on charges of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Robbery and Simple Assault. Barnes was arraigned before District Judge Ron Edwards and remanded to Wayne County Prison after failing to post $500,000 bail.
The arrest came following an investigation into an assault that occurred at a first floor apartment at 1830 Fair Avenue just prior to 6 a.m. that day. The male victim, age 50, had invited Barnes and another male to his apartment after having been drinking at the Limerick bar on Main Street. According to witnesses there was conversation regarding sexual orientation among the three, and at some point Barnes reportedly “flipped out” and attacked the victim pushing him into a wall and then cutting his neck with a razor knife. Following the attack, Barnes allegedly took the victim’s wallet from his pants pocket and fled the apartment.
