The Wayne County Commissioners discuss tax legislation - and hot wings.

The County Tax Levy and Appropriation Resolution for the county budget was adopted at the year’s last Commissioners meeting Thursday morning.

The 2008 county tax budget had been on display for public viewing at the courthouse for twenty days prior to its adoption, and the resolution fixed the tax rate for 2008 fiscal year at 3.16 mills on each dollar of assessed home value. In other words, the owners of a home that is assessed as being worth $318,000 can anticipate paying $10,048.80 in taxes for the 2008 fiscal year.

Of the 3.16 mills per dollar of assessed value, 2.75 mills are to be appropriated for the county’s general fund uses, while the remaining .41 mills will be utilized for the repayment of county debt.
